Shiloh School: A Rosenwald School

As part of my community-engaged research, I examined the history of Shiloh Elementary School, an African American institution in Asheville, North Carolina, constructed in 1927 following the destruction of the original school. This project involved over 80 hours of literature review, interviews with alumni to capture their experiences, and the design of a website to disseminate findings. My research highlighted the school's significant social impact on the Shiloh community, culminating in a presentation at the African American in Western North Carolina and Southern Appalachia Conference in October 2019. This work earned me the Adelaide Daniels Key Community Award, recognizing its contribution to understanding the historical context and legacy of African American education in the region.
